1. UV Exposure 

Most gel manicures require curing under UV or LED lamps. While LED lights use a lower intensity, both still emit ultraviolet light. Repeated exposure increases the risk of premature skin aging and in rare cases skin cancer on the hands. Dermatologists often recommend applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your hands or wearing UV-protective gloves during the process.

2. Chemical Concerns 

Some gel polishes contain chemicals like formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate which are ingredients linked to allergic reactions, respiratory issues, or hormone disruption. While many brands advertise “3-free” or “5-free” formulas, not all are transparent about their ingredients.
