Hair Care

Hair care is a routine that blends personal expression with daily necessity, yet the products most commonly used often come with unintended environmental consequences. Plastic-heavy packaging and resource-intensive formulas contribute to waste and pollution on a global scale. Shifting toward sustainable alternative encourages a more mindful relationship with personal care.

1. Buy organic shampoos and conditioners

by Humankind is my personal favorite. They have all-natural liquid shampoos that come in aluminum bottles with grapefruit + lavender scents.

2. Make homemade dry shampoo

Follow this recipe from Going Zero Waste to create a natural dry shampoo that cleans your hair without using oils that strip the environment of its resources.

3. Reuse hair ties whenever possible

It’s easy to just throw hair ties away because they are dirty but try rewashing them before you toss. It saves you from having to buy new ones as well!

4. Use a silk pillowcase

A silk pillowcase keeps your hair fresh, free, and reduces oil buildup which limits the amount of water-usage and heat you apply to your hair. Your environmental impact and hair damage is reduced when using them.

5. DIY sea salt spray

Follow Gimme Some Oven's guide for a DIY sea salt spray that is incredibly easy to make with few ingredients.
