Cleaning

Cleaning may not be the most glamorous part of the day, but it doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense. Greener, smarter wipes can make tidying up both eco-friendly and surprisingly fun. See how a few simple changes can turn everyday cleaning into a win for your home and the environment.

1. Make your own cleaning products

All-purpose cleaners, stain removers, and toilet cleaners could not be any easier to make and have no harmful ingredients.

For an all-purpose cleaner:

  • 1 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 5-10 drops of essential oils such as lavender or lemon
  • (optional) 1 teaspoon liquid castile soap for extra cleaning power

2. Use wool dryer balls

Dryer sheets are non-biodegradable and are made from polyester, which is derived from fossil fuels. Swap them with wool dyers balls that reduce drying time and soften clothes.

3. Wash full loads

This prevents wasting water and energy and makes full use of your washing machine while reducing costs.

4. Wash in cold water

Using the warm or hot water setting adds unnecessary energy use to your bill. Washing in cold water has the same impact on your laundry as warm water does.

5. Use glass bottles for EVERYTHING

Plastic bottles are a thing of the past. Not only are glass bottles multi-use but they look cleaner and add a shine to your cleaning spaces.
